Have you ever had an idea that makes your mind start running a bajillion brain sprints a second and makes your stomach feel all tense and happy like when you see the waiter coming with your food? Yeah, those kinds of ideas. They're the best. No... they're the worst. Maybe both. Well. I got one.
My heart goes out to all of my fellow creatives out there. I don't know about you... but creative droughts seriously suck the life out of me. They make me feel so useless and unproductive because I can't do what I feel I'm made to do... create. imagine. pursue. However, I'm convinced that the way to beat it is to go back to that place where you feel safe to explore your thoughts. Or hit repeat on the playlist that gives you those odd feelings of nostalgia. Sit and watch a sunset. Read something. Literally force yourself to step away from the world and into your zone. Once you do, it feels like you can breathe again. It's weird but true. I've been exploring Colorado a bit lately with Jake. It did the trick for me. So find your zone. And maybe you'll get once of those terribly awesome ideas too.

Ugh, I think you wrote this for me. I've been in a rut lately and I am NOT A FAN. I know what I need, and it's exactly what you said--just step away from the world for a little bit. Now, if life will just slow down and stop being so darn busy so I can do that... ;)
ReplyDeleteyeah its seriously awful. and the fact that you can't think of anything or create anything makes you so frustrated that you don't even try. But yeah jess.. I'm a firm believer in solitude. I think it's in seasons of solitude that we become who we really are because we actually are spending time with ourselves and getting to know ourselves. You can do it! I'm gonna check and make sure you do!!!!!! haha :] sorry that you're not nearby or we could get away on an adventure together. xo ronnie
DeleteYup, I totally identify. And I identify with Jess up there. ^ I did get a chance to do some creative things this weekend, and it did wonders for my soul! I am still hitting a block in other areas though, mostly due to the fact that school is cramping my style and I need to graduate already.
ReplyDeleteMiss you, Sharon! Your life looks awesome. :)
Completely agree. I always feel stifled when I haven't gone out & explored a new place in awhile, but then I do, and I can come back and work on the projects i've been thinking of :).
